The author of the text said that the report from Nintendo
that the Wii console sales is falling, brought back the memories of the first
time he played games. Five years ago, the console game came with a boxing game
and the user that love to play that game fought so hard until they collapse. That
was a sign that console games could be more than just a thumb exercise, but
also an exercise for the whole body.
Moreover, Wii had a annual sales in the million consoles
even from the start. However, when the current version is getting old, in the
second quarter, only 710.000 consoles were sold, compared with 1,56 million
consoles were sold in the same period last year. That’s why Nintendo wants to
launch the brand new Wii and become their opportunity to increase the sales.
However, kids who play Wii will still be fat because the
recent study told that the Wii player with active games burn no more calories
than those whose Wii came with quieter fare. It’s becoming clear that Wii aren’t
helping kids to stop their laziness. The conclusion is the kids these days are
same as ever.
Honestly, I rarely play console games and I think the best activity
for kids is doing sport activities. Although Wii gives active games for kids,
it won’t be an answer for those who wants to burn calories by playing games. On
the other hand, I really appreciate the Nintendo's effort to launch some games
that more than just a thumb exercise, at least the player could be more active
while playing games. However, parents should control their kids to avoid game
addiction. Wii sales may recover with a new technology, but still the best way
for kids to burn their calories is by doing sport and physical activities.
Well, I agree with the author's opinion that console games are not the answer to burn calories. However I think NEVER did Wii promote their product with the slogan of Wii can exercise the body. The Wii product indeed promote their demography technology, feature and their super sensitive remote which attracted consumer and gamer to enjoy the direct play game with movement input rather than thumb input. As it was stated on the first paragraph that console games give exercise to thumbs and fingers, Console games also train simple calculating based on the program. Even though the games look simple, human tends to study the way by repetition, hence we train our nerve without realizing it. It is a common sense that pro-gamer have a fast neural processing in their own field(somehow this is off topic, but i want to share this).I conclude games won't help burning as much calories as sport do. Wii indirectly promote real sport, as it bring joy and excitement to us. If someone is very interested in sport, he/she will do his/her best to learn it.Again, I think it is not the Wii fault that some children are in obesity. Obesity is caused by not proper diet(the consumed food, not the effort to do diet) and high calories snack.
BalasHapusHonestly, I can't say much about this article. I've never played wii before, but I used to think that it could be a way of exercising. After reading this article, I guess I was wrong. From Nabel's summary, I can conclude that wiis have no use in burning calories, and thus is not the solution to overcome child obesity. I think that sports and controlled diets are the best way of solving that problem.
BalasHapusI actually believe wii helps kids to move their body compared to any other thumb-controlled-console games with almost the same amount of fun. Referring to another article I read, someone has proven to lose 9 pounds just by playing wii for half an hour a day. That being said, wii does burn calories, but not as much as when you do 'real' exercise. I think what the article is trying to say is that kids choose not to play games with a high level of intensity, or even if they do, they'd become less active at other times in the day to recompense their activity which might be the reason why wii is not effective enough to fight obesity problems.
